- OUR FRENCH CURRICULUM - In our French curriculum, we follow a phonics-centred approach to learning French as a foreign language, created by Rachel Hawkes and Dr Marie-Odile Guillou. Ensuring children have a firm grasp of phonics enables them to become stronger, more independent learners of French. For more information about this scheme, please refer to: https://www.rachelhawkes.com/Resources/KS2Lang.php - A PHONICS APPROACH - As in the example below, children in Year 3 begin learning French through French GPCs, using gestures to scaffold their first steps into a foreign language. Children are encouraged to make the sound using a gesture to support, followed by using the sound in a word. Watch our Y3 children demonstrate below:
