 - SAFEGUARDING -

As a school, we are committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all children in school.

The school follows Kirklees Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures.

https://www.kirkleessafeguardingchildren.co.uk/

If we have safeguarding concerns regarding a child in school, in most circumstances, we will endeavour to discuss these concerns with parents. However, there may be exceptional circumstances when we will discuss concerns with Social Care and/or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures).

We will always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents whilst ensuring we are protecting the welfare and safety of the children who attend school.

We listen to our pupils when they want to talk to us and we treat safeguarding concerns seriously.  All school staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) through our CPOMS system.

If parents/carers/members of the public have concerns regarding a child who attends school, we would encourage them to contact the school to discuss their concerns, asking to speak to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) – Rebecca Martin or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leaders (DDSL) – Alex Meakin, Sarah Dearlove or Caroline Holt on 01274 679541. Alternatively you can email the designated safeguarding lead rebecca.martin@scholesprimary.co.uk .

Ofsted 2019   'Staff take their safeguarding duties seriously.  They have a good understanding of their roles and responsibilities. Leaders take prompt action to provide pupils with the support they need.'

It is always in the best interests of the child to discuss your concerns, however small.

If you would like to share a concern anonymously you can phone or email school without leaving your name or contact details.  Alternatively, you can post a letter to school.

If you have concerns about a child's safety or welfare in school, which you feel you cannot address with the DSL (Headteacher), or the DDSLs, you can contact the Chair of Governors via the school office.

If you think a child in Kirklees is being abused or mistreated or you have concerns about a child’s well-being or need advice and support about a child with a disability you should call and speak to someone on one of the following numbers:

Educating Children To Help Them Stay Safe

There are lots of ways that our curriculum and assemblies support children to understand how to stay safe.  We also deliver NSPCC's Speak Out Stay Safe programme every year which involves age appropriate assemblies and workshops delivered by NSPCC volunteers in partnership with school staff.

Visitors and Volunteers

Visitors and volunteers are welcomed at Scholes. To keep our children safe we ask that mobile phones are put away and not used around school. Safeguarding and Confidentiality leaflets are given out to anyone who will be working alongside pupils.

Photographs and Videos

Whilst lots of parents and carers really enjoy seeing photos and videos of their children’s school life we are very mindful of our duty of care towards all our pupils. We take the issue of safeguarding very seriously and this includes the use of photographic and video images.

When a child starts at Scholes, parents have a consent form to sign giving school permission to use photographs on our website, in newspapers etc.  This consent form is also attached to our annual update forms for parents. Consent is checked before we share any photographs in any form.

Any photographs or videos taken by parents, carers and relatives at school productions, sports days or other events are for the enjoyment of individual families. They must not be used in any way that could potentially place a child at risk. This would include publishing images in any form of print or on the internet including social networking sites. This is emphasised before concerts and shows etc.
