- SAFEGUARDING -
We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) through our CPOMS system.
The procedures which we follow have been laid down by the Kirklees Safeguarding Board and the school has adopted the Local Authority Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy. On rare occasions our concern about a child may mean that we have to consult other agencies. We will ensure that all concerns are discussed with parent/carers first, before any referrals are made, unless we believe that such a move may be contrary to a child’s welfare.
Ofsted 2019 'Staff take their safeguarding duties seriously. They have a good understanding of their roles and responsibilities. Leaders take prompt action to provide pupils with the support they need.'

The DSL, School Business Manager and Safeguarding Governor complete an annual Safeguarding audit and any actions required are taken to a Governing Body Meeting. We also request an external safeguarding review every three years.
Operation Encompass
We are an operation encompass school, which means we work with a variety of agencies, including the police. The police come into school to support us by, for example, delivering a 'Bobby Bear' Encompass Assembly.
Educating Children To Help Them Stay Safe
There are lots of ways that our curriculum and assemblies support children to understand how to stay safe. We also deliver NSPCC's Speak Out Stay Safe programme every year which involves age appropriate assemblies and workshops delivered by NSPCC volunteers in partnership with school staff.
Visitors and Volunteers
Visitors and volunteers are welcomed at Scholes. To keep our children safe we ask that mobile phones are put away and not used around school. Safeguarding and Confidentiality leaflets are given out to anyone who will be working alongside pupils.
Photographs and Videos
Whilst lots of parents and carers really enjoy seeing photos and videos of their children’s school life we are very mindful of our duty of care towards all our pupils. We take the issue of safeguarding very seriously and this includes the use of photographic and video images.
When a child starts at Scholes, parents have a consent form to sign giving school permission to use photographs on our website, in newspapers etc. This consent form is also attached to our annual update forms for parents. Consent is checked before we share any photographs in any form.
Any photographs or videos taken by parents, carers and relatives at school productions, sports days or other events are for the enjoyment of individual families. They must not be used in any way that could potentially place a child at risk. This would include publishing images in any form of print or on the internet including social networking sites. This is emphasised before concerts and shows etc.
